Yoga

The word yoga comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. Yoga is said to be for the purpose of uniting the mind, body, and spirit. Though many people think of yoga only as physical exercises, these are actually only one aspect of this profound science of unfolding the infinite potentials of the human mind and soul. By integrating the mind, body, and spirit, we can create a harmony with ourselves and with our surroundings. Yoga is really about creating balance in the body and in one’s life.

Is Yoga for you? The answer is yes. Yoga is for anyone who is willing to learn its ways and ideas. It does not actually require any special equipment or clothing. It can be adjusted to any age and any state of the health. All you really need is an open mind and wiliness to change for better and to bring stability into your life.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy begins with a complete postural, mental and emotional assessment that includes testing muscle strength, range of motion and breath patterns, mental and emotional states as well as information about lifestyle. These facts are the baseline for providing yoga therapy specifics to one's needs. If appropriate, we work together with your health care professional, therapist, physical/occupational therapist or behavioral health professional in a confidential and supportive manner.

A personalized yoga-based program is developed and modified as the client progresses toward wellness and/or encounters additional challenges. Individualized programs and customized sessions are recommended as no two persons are the same even though they may present similar symptoms or share the same diagnosis.

Functional Yoga Therapy

Functional Yoga Therapy is based on understanding that the human being is an integrated body-mind-spiritual system that function as optimally only when in a state of dynamic balance. The therapist adapts and individualizes a specific set of postures and therapeutic movements, breathing techniques, awareness and meditation tools, while focusing on the client's lifestyle needs. Functional Yoga Therapy believes no two clients are the same even if one presents with similar conditions to another; individual and customized treatment plans are the hallmark of Functional Yoga Therapy.
